Many children attend some sort of Youth group at their church. Youth groups are suppose to be geared toward teaching the beliefs of a religion to young teenagers in a fun way that they will understand. Many youth look forward to attending their youth group meetings and going on fun youth group trips and learning about their religion with others their age but this was not the case for me. Growing up, my youth pastor was my aunts husband which to most kids that would be awesome but it was not a joyful experience. I remember sitting in class every Wednesday listening to my uncle preach about the lesson for the week but unfortunately I could not really focus on the lesson being taught because all I could think about was how he was preaching one thing but living the total opposite. At that point in time, I could not focus on the teachings because I could not understand how a person could stand in front of children who looked up to him and preach about all the things that we should not do because God does not approve of them but then once church let out that person could go do everything they just told us a person should never do. For example, a person should not impair their body with alcohol because God does not want us to harm our bodies but that lesson didn't apply to him once church let out because no one from the church would ever notice that he was preaching one thing but doing another because he was a "closet" drunk, to them at least. Even though I have learned to deal with others living a "double life", I have also realized the effect it has on others because at that time I did not think that it really effected me to much but as I grew older I realized that I distanced myself from attending youth group events because I could not listen to someone preach one thing and do the opposite.
In December I became sick and I was put on a ton of medications to try and help me get well but unfortunately none of them worked. Of course at first my doctor went on about the possibility that I could be pregnant but that was not the issue. After doing a few tests, my doctor informed me that my gallbladder was not functioning correctly and so he sent me to a surgeon which of course the surgeon said that my gallbladder needed to come out. I did not schedule my surgery immediately because I was a bit nervous and so I wanted to go home and think it over; however, when I went to a follow-up appointment with my family doctor he practically said it needed to be done since I had spent months taking four anti acids plus three other medications to stop the symptoms. So after spending a few days getting things together, I scheduled the surgery for the 16th. I spent the majority of my spring break doing all of my school work since the doctor said I would be out for about ten days. And up until now, I have been okay with having the surgery but now that the day is here, I am very nervous. I have had surgery in the past but I have never had anything taken out of my body before so I am a bit skeptical about today; however, I know that everything will be okay and that I will feel a whole lot better once I recover from the surgery,
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, racist can be defined as a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities that racial differences produce an inherent superiority for a particular race or it can be defined as racial prejudice or discrimination. Troy Maxson could be considered racists because of his reactions and responses to white people's actions but I do not view Troy Maxson as a racist person. Troy lived during the 1950's and 1960's and in that period of time, blacks and whites were not viewed as equal. Through out the play Troy talks about the white people and how blacks do not get very far in life because the world would rather have a white person over a black person regardless of their skills. For example, he talks about baseball players and how black baseball players could be very talented but coaches would rather take a less talented white ball player over a black ball player. Troy also speaks about how white people get the better jobs and black people are forced to work the jobs that no one else wants, so to speak. I do not think that Troy was trying to be racist in anyway but I believe this was thinking of many black people back in this time frame. I believe that many black people including Troy Maxson were very upset with the way they were treated and many of them just wanted to be treated like a human being. It is really quit simple, black people wanted to be treating in the same way that white people were treated; all they wanted was to be treated equally. Troy Maxson just wanted to be equal to a white person, he wanted to be respected and he wanted to be rewarded for his talents and skills. Troy Maxson wanted to the best life for his family and himself but he did not know how to go about it in the world he was living in.
Charley could have meant a lot of things when he said to Willy, "the only thing you got in this world is what you sell?" From a business point of view, Charley could have been telling Willy that the only way for him to earn a good amount of money each week is by selling his products. If a salesmen does not sell his product then he/she will not earn the commission for selling their products. As a salesmen the only way you can earn money is by selling the products that you are suppose to sell. Charley could have simple been telling Willy that he must sell his products and a good quantity of them if he wants to earn enough money to live the life he dreams about living. Charley could have also been telling Willy that the only thing he has in this world is what he sells because he has made some mistakes and his family is falling apart. Biff is upset with his father and clearly wants nothing to do with him and Willy ignores Happy even though Happy tries so hard to keep his fathers attention. Since Willy is slowly loosing his family, Charley could have been trying to tell Willy that the only thing he now has in this world is going to be what he sells since he has drove his family apart.
Either way you view this statement, I believe the meaning of the statement has the same effect. In the 1940's, if you were a salesmen then you would have to sell your products in order to get enough commission to live the life you want and the same goes for 2012. On the other hand if you push your family away then all you are going to have is your job and yourself which again has not changed over the years. A person must work hard and earn an honest living to obtain the life they dream about but they also have to accept their family otherwise they will push their family away and all they will have is their occupation
One of the most important days in a person’s life is their
wedding day. Once a man pops that question that every woman dreams about
hearing then the lovely stress of planning that special day consumes them.
Of course, everyone wants the perfect wedding so every little
detail must be thought out thoroughly. You have the stress of the venue, the
decorations, the colors or theme, the bridal party list, the bridal party
gifts, the dj, the caterer, the dresses, the tuxes, the cake, the rehearsal
dinner, the transportation, guest list, guest favors, the invitations, the
save-the-dates, the photographer, the videographer, and all of the other
details. Not to mention, the bride has to worry about finding that one perfect
dress.
This is why most people go with a wedding coordinator or
wedding planner because they take care of all these stressful things and the
bride and groom get to relax and enjoy the planning and their big day. I have
spent my whole life working with my mother because she is a wedding planner for
her friends and family. Planning weddings come naturally to me and they are so
easy and stress free and that is why I love participating in the wedding
planning business with my mother. I have a ton of ideas and I never have to
question what I am doing because when I it to plan a wedding all of the ideas
just come to my mind and in a few hours I can have a wonderful image for a
wedding.
Death Of A Salesman is a very interesting piece of literature. I found the works to be a little confusing at times but it was enjoyable over all. If I was in charge of casting the movie version of "Death of a Salesman" I would use the following actors or actresses: Robin Williams, Deidre Hall, David Gregory, and Nic Robuck.
Robin Williams would play the role of Willy. Willy is an older man who has worked his whole life as a salesman and all he wanted was to give his family a good life. Through out the play Willy shows a tender side when he shows his love and appreciation for his wife, he also shows a concerned side when he expresses his concern for his children's lives, and he also shows this angry side when he goes off into his random talks and things of that nature. Robin Williams has been know to play many different roles in many different movies such as Patch Adams, Flubber, Jumanji, and Mrs. Doubtfire. Robin Williams is a well rounded actor and I believe he would play the role of Willy perfectly.
Deidre Hall is an actress who is a star on the soap opera Days Of Our Lives and she plays the character of Marlena. Marlena is a sweet woman who loves her family and adores her husband John Black and stands by him through out the good and the bad. I consider Deidre Hall to be the best fit for the part of Linda. Linda is a loving mother as well as a wife and she views her husbands as the best man on earth and she stands by him through out their life together and she never views him in a negative way. Deidre Hall plays a role similar to this in the show Days Of Our Lives; therefore, she is the best actress to participate in this roll.
David Gregory and Nic Robuck were both actors on the show One Life To Live and they played the role of brothers. David played the role of Ford who was the oldest brother of three. Nic played the role of the middle brother, James. Ford had left James back in their hometown because Ford wanted to pursue his acting career. Ford felt guilty for leaving James and when James eventually found Ford, they lived together and built a nice life together. In the play Death Of A Salesman, there are the two brothers, Happy and Biff. I would cast David Gregory as Biff because he has experience with playing the older brother and in the play Biff is very hostile to his father and Ford had many hostile moments with his abusive father on the show One Life To Live. Nic would play the role of Happy for three reasons. The first is that Nic has had experience being the younger brother, secondly like Happy Nic tries to be the peacemaker and make everyone happy just like Happy seemed to do, and lastly I would choose Nic for this role because not only was he handsome but he had wonderful ideas just like Happy did at the end of the play.
